I got sick again this week, so I’m behind on my work. I’ll try to catch up by Friday, and at least by the following Monday for sure.
I thought I’d talk about the kind of fevers I get pretty often in case anybody was wondering or was worried about my health.
Put it behind a cut here, in case it gets tl;dr.
For the last 6 months or so, I’ve been getting sick with a fever almost once a month (not every month, but at least 1 out of 3). It’s usually a low fever and nausea. While the fever is never over 101 F, it doesn’t go back down below 99.5 even when I take medicine for it. So I spend the whole two or three days all shaking and hot/cold with a stomach ache. Sometimes I can continue working while I’m sick, and other times I can’t.
I’ve read this is really common for women around their PMS cycle to have low immunity and catch colds and such. I also have a severe PMS to begin with, so these things combined can put me out of commission for a few days at a time.
I’m taking some measures to improve my overall health, like eating more vitamin-rich foods and exercising every day. So far in my life, I’ve just been focused on whatever project I’m working on. Some days I don’t even remember to eat because I get so focused. I’ve always been underweight for my height, and my weight fluctuates more than it probably should. So, while I’m resolving to work harder on my comic goals, I have to know when to take a break to do my exercises and eat right.
I’m also saving up some money so that I can afford at least low-end health care options. I’ve been told my problems could go away with something as simple as birth control, so that’s something I’m going to look into.
But for now, I’m just working on being healthy and increasing my body weight. It’s a long-term solution though, so I might be troubled with this for a while longer.
Thanks everyone for being patient and all your support.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you get better soon!
Regular exercise sounds like a splendid idea. It’d be a good idea for me as well. It would give me a chance to breathe in the beauty of nature too.
Don’t wanna diagnose anyone over the internet, but that sounds suspiciously like a cystic ovary. I’ve had three. The first two went away with anti-inflammatories, the third… also went away, but by bursting, which while not life-threatening was really *insanely* painful and did put me in the hospital for a day or two.
So, y’know. I totally understand no doctors, I was without health insurance for many years myself, but if you’re also getting a returning pain in your side, you might see what you can get in the way of over-the-counter anti-inflammatories.
Good luck, and feel better.
Thanks for the advice. I have a lot of people saying it could be this and it could be something else. So I’ll get it checked out eventually, and we’ll see.
Maybe we need to pack up our pens and brushes, and move our creative asses to a civilized country, like Nigeria for example, where access to healthcare is recognized as a fundamental Human Right. If the jerks in Congress woke up tomorrow, and all the artists, musicians, dancers, poets and other writers and so on, had left the country, at first they wouldn’t notice, because they are focused on bankers. Then, they’d notice that things they care about were getting scarce and expensive. ###end of rant
You may want to try diindolymethane (DIM, a mild estrogen blocker), dong quai, maca root, black cohosh, milk thistle, and especially a natural progesterone cream. All of these are available at Your local ‘Earthly Goods’ or GNC or other natural food/nutritional supplement store. I’ll try to kick in a few Hamiltons later this week to help with the cost.
Feel better, Sweetie! >smooches<
Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I avoid discussing politics on my website because it’s not great for business, but I generally agree with what you said there. I still believe that capitalism works when the market is fair and presents competition, but in industries like healthcare, that is not the case.
I will check out the nearest health store when I have the chance. I think we have GNC down the street.
